Here is how I did it and so far as I can tell, its the closest you can get to trying to do what I'm trying to accomplish:



In this pic, I've made my first two waypoints LAX and then LIMBO, since they make up the exact radial from LAX I'm trying to intercept (btw, in case you're interested, this is the typical IFR departure for aircraft leaving KTOA).

I've set the heading bug for runway heading and HDG and ALT are selected at takeoff.
Once off the ground I engage the autopilot which flies the 294 heading until I begin to approach the radial I want to intercept.



At a point that I estimate is enough to "lead" the turn, I begin scrolling the HDG bug with the idea of matching the radial to join (the 170 degree radial).



Once the plane has joined the radial/airway, I copy and paste the next waypoint (in this case, LIMBO) to the top and make it the active waypoint. I switch on LNAV and presto! I've acccomplished the procedure.

Now, unless you know a trick that I don't, this seems to be the best way to visually show the radial you want to intercept. Of course, it assumes that you know a waypoint somewhere along the radial you want to intercept to make it work--but that seems to be the case in all the DPs I've been involved with (another example is a southbound flightplan from KMHR--you fly rwy heading to intercept the 177 radial from SAC VOR).

But I'm not sure what it is I'm seeing on your MFD.

How did you get the yellow dashed line from LAX, when the plane hasn't been there yet? You say the DispPrevApt=1 feature draws a line between the previous and current flightplan, but that would imply a line thats always behind you....

Sorry, but I'm not clear on how you made this work.

Okay, I got it working now, and I can tell you it works just as you say, even using the Smiths FMS in conjunction with the P1000 MFD.

One thing I noted was that the yellow dashed line disappears when you reduce the viewing range of the MFD from 5nm to 2.5nm.
