Hi,

I am having some very basic problems with FS2004, autopilot and navigation using VOR's and radials.

For instance, I dial into the Nav1 Radio the Frequency of the VOR which I require to navigate from.

I then dial into the Course Window the radial for the course I want to fly out on - (>K:VOR1_OBI_DEC) or (>K:VOR1_OBI_INC).

I fly over the VOR and fly on the radial I have set in the Course Window. I try to have the Course Deviation Indicator in the EADI centred as much as possible.

With Autopilot engaged, I then press the VOR LOC button - (>K:AP_NAV1_HOLD) – which I expect will keep me on that radial.

Surprisingly, to me anyway, the plane then banks hard left or right.

Seconds later it reverses and crosses the radial to the other side.

Then it reverses again but less severely.

This continues, the see-saw getting less severe all the time, until finally it settles on the designated radial.

Then it happily flies the course.

Sometimes it can take 5 nm or more for it to settle down.

The same also happens if I approach the radial from an angle.

To or from a VOR suffers the same fate.

I know if I was a passenger in the cabin behind I would be very, very afraid and probably feeling queasy.

Anyone any suggestions as to how best to ease the see-saw effect.

If I look at the Flight Analysis afterwards, the whole thing looks quite comical and very unprofessional.

Is there some setting I can alter to make the turns less aggressive.

I use the ISG HW_B737_ND and the 50North 737, though I suspect the fault lies firmly with FS2004 or, more likely, me.

Thanks

Hi,
If your LNAV is not engaged in your situation, then the ISG HW_B737_ND would not be the issue. Maybe you can get more help over by the AVSIM/Flightsim forums.

Thank you for the reply, T. Headlam.

I really only mentioned the ISG ND gauge to prove my ownership of ISG set of gauges and my delight in using them.

I seldom fly with LNAV or VNAV but when I do the course changes are faultless - correct, solid, tight and unwavering.

It is only the VOR LOC navigation that causes me angst.

I thought a number of the pilots on this forum might have had some experience of VOR navigation prior to ISG introducing realistic LNAV.

I will post on some other forums now, as you suggest.

Thanks

You know what. Look in your Aircraft.cfg and also the ISG.cfg.
Look and see if your LNAV is setting your enroute FP frequency also.
LnavSetEnRouteFreqs=1 <-------switch it to 0

Just a tidbit on the matter,
Happy Landings :)
