The F1 Mustang doesn't make even the slightest nod towards VNAV, you can't even enter altitudes for your waypoints into the computer. All altitude related calculations are relegated from the otherwise stunning Garmin G1000 to a less stunning piece of paper and good old "3 miles per 1000 feet, at 5x groundspeed FPM" which is fine until your speed varies by a few knots - and the 'stang lacks autothrottles too - at which point it all goes out the window.

I'm looking for something that I can enter a waypoint and an altitude into and be told by it when to start descending and at what vertical speed. I don't want it to control anything, all I need it to do is give me a target vertical speed. Is there anything in ISG1 that will do the trick ?

Thanks
Gary

I feel for you, Gary. F1 says that the VNAV function "isn't supported", which is another way of saying they just didn't model it into the plane. :x

While I don't have any problem with the autothrottles being absent (the real plane doesn't have them either), I sure wish they would have made the plane complete by including the VNAV function (as the real plane does).

The problem with utilizing ISG gauges for their VNAV function is that they generally won't "talk" to your existing guages and you'd be stuck planting the MFD into the Mustang panel, which would be rather odd, IMO. Nor can you get an ISG FMS to paint a BOD/TOD on your G1000.

Cheers Brian

I don't want to change anything on my Mustang panel, I was thinking more of adding a gauge (whatever it ends up being) on a little panel of its own open on my second screen and it not interacting / interfering in any way with the existing cockpit.

On one of the screens on the Mustang you can see the VNAV display. VNAV on the stang doesn't actually control anything, it just shows you the altitude you have to meet at your next waypoint and the (constantly updated) FPM required to achieve it (just like the PMDG J41). It's up to the pilot to make the plane go up and down, VNAV just tells you how fast to do it. That's all I want to replicate.

The lack of any TOD marker doesn't worry me, I'm happy just to cruise along watching the required FPM for the descent increase until it gets to 2000 or 2500 or 3000 or whatever then tipping the nose over and going down.

Thanks
Gary

FLYING THE Cessna MUSTANG

There are 2 possible methods:

1) Download the ' DESCENTOMETER ' that is working fine with all models

2) If you use for example the 'FSC86' FlightSim Commander 8.6, for any decrease in AT you would see on the screen exactly the point where you will reach the altitude selected adjusting the V/S descent-rate and speed accordingly.
FSC is saving any FPL in different formats for several models.

The F1 Cessna Mustang is one of the best on the market und programmed using 'spb' gauge-files increasing quite a lot the FMS rate.

You could install the ISG 'MCU' gauge that is always useful with any plain.

YOU ARE THE PILOT
