Easy question regarding going direct to a fix.
Let's say you are flying a flight plan and in currently in heading mode. Then ATC gives you a shortcut to a fix farther along your flight plan. I usually go into the Legs page and bring that fix to the top of the page--that sends the plane heading direct to that fix once you re-engage LNAV. The problem is, the autopilot wants me to rejoin the yellow dashed line that would have connected the original fix points of the flight plan together. The only way I know how to avoid this is to stay in heading mode and go toward the fix I've been cleared to. When I get close enough, I can hit LNAV again and everything's back to normal.
But there must be a better way than that. How can I direct the FMS to create a path that is direct from my present position to the fix in question?
