I did some experiments out of curiosity.
I tried it with the CLS DC-10, as it has a similar space for a permanenent FMS display like CaptainSims 707
(I do not have the CS 707).
It turned off most of my scenery settings to get over 100 fps on my machine.
Frames (CLS DC-10 (FS9 / Vista)
2D cockpit 105 fps
VC cockpit (w CLS FMS) 45 fps
VC cockpit (w ISG GNSXLS) 44 fps
2nd test,
Turned off all the code in the FMS, so all it did was display the background bitmap, it had no noticeable
effect on the frame rates.
VC cockpit (w ISG FMS) 45 fps
An interesting thing I saw is when I moved the mouse pointer outside of the FS window, the VC frame rate changed
dramatically on my machine.
Frames:
VC cockpit (w ISG FMS) 44 fps (with mouse hover over FS window)
VC cockpit (w ISG FMS) 105 fps (with mouse hover outside of FS window)
This was done in Vista, in FS windowed mode.
CLS DC-10 (FS9 / Vista) with non working ISG GNSXLS (with mouse cursor hovering over FS VC window). 46 FPS
CLS DC-10 (FS9 / Vista) with non working ISG GNSXLS (with mouse cursor hovering outside of FS window). 107 FPS.
The difference is dramatic, and its the first time I've ever noticed this behavior in FS. Probably because I tend to normally use full screen mode.
But I wonder if this is in anyway related to your problem.
In full screen mode, on my Vista machine anyway, I wasn't able to get it to go past about 30 fps even with all the sliders set to the mins (Normally My fps is usually locked at 20).
I tried the same experiment on my In WinXP machine.
Same test, no appreciable change in frames when the mouse cursor was hovered over the FS window, and outside the FS window. No appreciable change also when I displayed the VC mode in the CLS DC10 with and without the ISG GNSXLS.
This of course then begs a few questions. Like are you using Vista ? And if you are using Vista is it in windowed or full screen mode ? If its windowed mode try the mouse hover experiment and see if the frames change.
Though flying around with the different frame rate displays I can't say I noticed any real difference in display quality. That big a difference should have been noticeable. So maybe it is some sort of false FPS reading ?
Regards.
