Although FSBuild is not absolutely necessary to achieve our goals it facilitates greatly the feeding of FMCs'. Alternatively routes can be entered manually into FMCs' although this is rarely done in the real life. As to weather data, the easiest way is to use the Active Sky products just because it can connect with MSFS and integrates well all data. There are other basic METAR softwares - some free - available which will give basic METARS for departure and arrival airports but rarely give enroute winds. Therefore I recommend the use of FSBuild and the appropriate Active Sky program. (Here you have the choice between ASX and ASA for FSX and AS6 for FS9. Beware that none of the three are perfect. Gathering interpreting and integrating weather data is an extremely complex process. In addition both FS9 and FSX have limitations in understanding and rendering weather data. One known glitch of ACtive Sky and ASA is the absence of weather data on trans-oceanic flights.
