Continuing to learn.....

I tried adding (by RMB-Insert) a custom (LATLONG) waypoint (e.g. 15nm from the DEST RWY) instead of the STAR. The waypoint (w/ format "5354N/00616W") is indeed showing on the MAP, but when I build/export to FSX (fsx.xml), I cannot load that FPLN into FSX. The FPLN does appear on the FSX pull-down flightplan list, but it does not load when I select it.

Could you please tell me what could be wrong or how to add custom LATLONG waypoints into an already created FSBUILD FPLN w/o a STAR?

Thanks.

How about opening your .PLN file in a text editory and copying and pasting the data between <ATCWaypoint id = *> and </ATCWaypoint> for the waypoint you entered so we can see what was put into the FSX plan?

DJ:

Here is an example.

If AUTOGENERATE and BUILD a flightplan on FSBUILD for (KSEA-CYVR), I get (w/ STAR DUXUM1):
KSEA ARPEE V165 ISLND OVBIN.DUXUM1 CYVR

I've no problem loading this FPLN into FSX.

Next, I remove the STAR and build, I get:
KSEA ARPEE V165 ISLND CYVR, which also loads fine.

However, if I now add a custom waypoint "4910N/12255W" between "ISLAND" and "CYVR", I get:
KSEA ARPEE V165 ISLND 4910N/12255W CYVR

This flightplan does show the custom waypoint on the FSBUILD MAP, but the built/saved FPLN does not load into the FSX.

Thanks for loking into it. I appreciate your time.

The problem is that FSX will not accept a waypoint ID of greater than five characters... you can get around this by going into the generated .PLN file and changing the <ATCWaypoint id> for that point to 4910N or going into the FSB grid and double clicking on the ID or Name column and changing it to 4910N - note that you'll have to reenter the longitude into the grid as well; then build again after selecting "build from grid" . The plan can be opened in notepad...

As I recall, somewhere in the documents is a method for aliasing a waypoint - I don't know if it's in the main site links or in the furnished pdf docs however. You'd have to dig around a bit unless Ernie drops by. I think the easiest way in this case is simply to use notepad and make a manual change...

There's no additional way to do it other than what is already mentioned.

You either have to change it in the table/grid and export again from the table/grid, or manually edit it, in the .pln file.

Regards.
Ernie.
