Thanks Ernie and all,
Now that I have the navdata update in the correct place everything is working as expected. The program is now showing the correct sidstars and now I just have to learn some more basics. I've read through all of the manuals now so everythings coming together quite nicely. The only thing I need to learn now is how to get the winds/temps in the flight plan from ASA/ASE. I have been playing with other options and aspects and haven't yet given it a valiant effort and will give it a more thorough go tonight.
Thanks again,
Dan

Dan,

Glad to hear you are getting it going ok.

Winds .. yes,

I do not use ASA but did you read the links provided by Snobile as a response in this thread?

Did you search this forum?

Did you check with the ActiveSky Forum?

Thanks a bunch for the step by step Ernie.
Unfortunately, I followed it exactly as you put forth but after I build the Flight Plan all of my winds are 0 in the right column.

My "current_wx_snapshot.txt" file is in the C:\Users\Dan\AppData\Roaming\HiFi\ASE folder, and I have set that in the AS6 field. I saved my config in the settings tab and restarted, confirming that in the build options I still have the "Apply winds aloft data" checked.

I then enter a departure and destination and tell it to auto generate (this is the only step different from instructions, but I need it to since if I just press build it will only give me a direct path from Dep-Arr).
After it generates the route I then press build and it then shows me my waypoints but the wind column remains 0's.

I went ahead and also set the ActiveSky browse directory to the same folder above (so now both mentions of ActiveSky and ActiveSky 6 are the same) and still get the same result.

Sorry for the late reply, but I have been working late hours the last 2 days. I think I'll start a fresh pot of coffee and start reading some from the ASA forum and links from Snobile like Vaughan has suggested.

Thanks again, and please let me know if you have any idea to what I'm doing wrong.

Ok, a quick look at the top link corrected the issue. The "current_wx_snapshot.txt" file exists in both the C:\Users\Dan\AppData\Roaming\HiFi\ASE folder as well as the C:\Users\Dan\AppData\Roaming\HiFi\ASE\Weather folder. I don't see any difference in either file size or file content yet the latter of two works \\..\\..\ASE\Weather.

The winds are now showing up like so:

I don't quite understand the format yet. I imagine that -14 would be a tail wind versus 14 being a head wind?

Thanks,
Let me know Vaughan if you still want me to post my config, just saw that.

Dan,
Glad the link worked for you and you got it going.

No, I do not need to see the file.

Have a good flight.

Does anyone has problems on different aloft winds shown on FP that the ones actual on FS and ASE?

For example on IXONA FL360 FSBuild read from the snapsot 254/52 but the winds from ASE where 062/16.

Chris

EDIT : Never mind I just read that ASE and ASA does not recognise the "," for decimal and need "." :( :(

I know this is a year later however having to reinstall does make one get familiar with the programme all over again.

One thing about the two locations. IN the second location there is another file which ASE looks for called weather stations list or something like that.

I too went to the first location and got an error message "can't find weather stations blah blah" so thats why the second location in the weather directory works UNDER Windows7.

Hope this helps future forgetful reinstalls such as myself. :-)

Rob
